Taiwan’s Representative, Douglas Hsu, Gives Opening Remarks at USSC Event

Taiwan’s Representative Douglas Hsu and Director General David Cheng-Wei Wu were honored to be invited to the United States Studies Centre (USSC) event, “Taiwan’s Upcoming Election: The Implications for Australia.” The panel discussion focused on the potential impact of the 2024 presidential election in Taiwan on TW-AU relations and regional peace and stability. The insights were shared by Lowy Institute Senior Fellow for East Asia, Richard McGregor; USSC Non-Resident Senior Fellow, Dr. Lavina Lee; and USSC CEO, Dr. Michael Green. The session was moderated by USSC Research Director, Jared Mondschein.
In his opening remarks, Representative Hsu expressed his perspective on the 8th direct presidential election, emphasizing that the freedom and democracy enjoyed by Taiwan today come at a sacrifice. Taiwan remains committed to safeguarding its liberal democratic values and lifestyle, collaborating closely with like-minded countries.
