Taiwan’s Tourism Administration Dec. 19 released a roundup of activities at scenic areas and theme parks across Taiwan for the arrival of the new year.
In northern Taiwan, Yilan County’s Waiao Beach hosts a sunrise event offering slightly leavened bread and a beverage. From the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area, visitors can enjoy a view of iconic county landmark, Turtle Island, the TA said.
The administration suggests that people in central Taiwan attend New Year’s Eve parties at Guguan and Lishan scenic areas. There is a national flag raising ceremony at Lishan Guest House at an altitude of around 2,000 meters on Jan. 1, 2024, the TA added.
The Sun Moon Lake New Year’s Eve party will start at 8:00 p.m. Dec. 31 and last until midnight, when six minutes of fireworks will be set off at Shuishe and Ita Thao piers, the administration said, adding that Lihpao Resort in Taichung City will host a concert, release fireworks and offer Ferris wheel rides to watch the first sunrise.
In southern Taiwan, the TA recommends watching a drone and Ferris wheel lighting show at Janfusun Fancyworld in western Taiwan’s Yunlin County or an over 16-minute firework display at E-Da Theme Park in the southern city of Kaohsiung. Watching the last sunset of the year from the Taiping Suspension Bridge in the Alishan National Scenic Area is a great suggestion for nature lovers, the administration said, as are the Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert and hiking at Siraya National Scenic Area on New Year’s Day.
Another option to ring in the new year is to travel to one of Taiwan’s outlying islands. Tourists can attend a party to light up installations near Matsu’s Beihai Tunnel and participate in a voice volume competition to shout out new year wishes in Lienchiang County.
Regardless of how people choose to celebrate, the TA advised revelers to take public transport and keep warm.
