As a part of the “Eighty Years of Elegance at Twin Oaks” celebration series, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), in collaboration with the prestigious Washington Performing Arts (WPA), invited internationally renowned violinists Chao-liang Lin and Paul Huang and pianist Helen Huang to perform at Twin Oaks on November 19, 2017. The elegant performances brought a warming musical feast to Twin Oaks before the Thanksgiving holiday, attracting nearly one hundred classical music lovers and loyal sponsors of arts and cultural activities in the Washington DC area.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Stanley Kao noted that Twin Oaks was one of the most important overseas assets of the government of the Republic of China (ROC). It has historical significance and has witnessed critical moments in the ROC’s diplomacy and the U.S.-Taiwan relations over the past eighty years. Performances by Taiwan-born musicians have attracted many philharmonic friends in society, highlighting the exchange of humanities and arts between Taiwan and the United States and further enriching the wonderful history of this historic mansion.
Ambassador Kao also pointed out that the stories told by Twin Oaks are time-honored. TECRO will continue to invite outstanding Taiwanese artists to perform at Twin Oaks in the future so that the estate can connect the past, the present and the future as a living landmark building, full of vitality and creativity, symbolizing the spirit and vision of Taiwan.
Ms. Jenny Bilfield, WPA President and CEO, thanked TECRO for participating in WPA’s "Embassy Adoption Program," which introduces and brings outstanding musicians and musical works from all over the world to Washington D.C. WPA is scheduled to present Paul Huang, the prestigious Avery Fischer Career Award winner, at the Kennedy Center in Washington on April 27, 2018. Philharmonic enthusiasts are encouraged to attend the recital.
