Cadence and Arizona State University cooperate with NIC to develop the semiconductor and microelectronics industries

20/09/2023

September 19, 2023 (Washington DC time) – Cadence Design Systems (Nasdaq: CDNS) and the National Innovation Center (NIC) have announced a new program to promote innovation and IC design activities in Vietnam. Through this partnership, NIC will provide Vietnamese universities, training centers and startups with the technology and training necessary to design and develop products for the ecosystem. Semiconductors and electronics are developing rapidly in Vietnam. Cadence will provide access to the tools to NIC-selected research institutes, giving students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in creating innovative IC designs.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung witnessed the signing ceremony with the Vietnamese leadership delegation within the framework of their visit to the United States. Cadence representatives, Ms. Karna Nisewaner, Vice President of the group, and Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of NIC signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The event also had the presence of representatives from the American Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), leaders of ministries, departments and other organizations and businesses of the two countries.

NIC is establishing the infrastructure for an IC design incubation center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi, where NIC's selected research institutes can leverage Cadence's industry-leading technologies to create offers a variety of designs, including 5G, IoT, Automotive, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 3D-IC packaging.

This cooperation will benefit the local market in Vietnam in many aspects. For example, students and professors will have access to the Cadence Support and Online Training Suite, providing the opportunity to experience real-world IC design. Cadence will connect and introduce internship and job opportunities for Vietnamese engineers trained at NIC. In addition, Cadence will connect and introduce NIC and Vietnamese universities to prestigious universities around the world to cooperate on IC design programs and courses. In parallel, Cadence will introduce NIC to governments, organizations, businesses, and corporations in the semiconductor industry in the United States and around the world. In addition, NIC will establish a startup incubator, including the necessary infrastructure, and Cadence will support startups in developing products that will enable them to mobilize investments and commercial agreements.

Also at the event, Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai signed an MoU with Mr. Jeffrey Goss, Vice President of Arizona State University (ASU) to establish a cooperation mechanism to identify cooperation opportunities between the two sides in the field of semiconductors. , microelectronics and other related majors suitable for the technology and innovation supply chain in Vietnam.

Within the framework of cooperation, ASU will introduce job opportunities for Vietnamese engineers trained at the NIC IC design center to incubate with domestic and foreign businesses in the semiconductor industry, including connections to Arizona's vast global semiconductor ecosystem.

ASU and NIC cooperate with Vietnamese research institutes or other educational organizations to develop training and research exchange programs related to semiconductors and related fields.

Furthermore, ASU will facilitate cooperation with governments, organizations, businesses and corporations in the semiconductor industry in the United States and around the world to support the cooperation between ASU and NIC toward the development of the semiconductor industry. Vietnam semiconductor ecosystem and deeply participate in the global semiconductor supply chain. At the same time, ASU will seek and exploit appropriate funding sources to develop workforce capacity in the semiconductor sector.

For startups, both sides jointly explore opportunities to bilaterally link ASU Innovation Parks across Phoenix, Arizona with NIC in Hanoi to foster innovative and innovative semiconductor ecosystems. startups in the US and Vietnam./.
