We are pleased to announce the application period for the 2025 MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) will officially open on the 1st of February, 2025.

Purpose:
The HES is funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan. It is for encouraging and providing Australians with opportunities to learn Mandarin language in Taiwan, to increase the understanding of Taiwanese culture and society as well as to promote mutual understanding and interactions between Australia and Taiwan.

Award Value:
A monthly stipend of NTD 28,000
Program Duration:
Huayu Enrichment courses will include 3, 6 and 9 months. Please be aware that the 2-month option is currently unavailable and we kindly ask you do not select this option on the online platform.
The awarded duration of the HES is from the 1st of September, 2025 to the 31st August, 2026. If recipients fail to come to Taiwan for enrolment during the designated time, they will forfeit their right to retain their scholarships.
Scholarship funding will become effective on the date of the recipient’s enrolment. Scholarship funding will end according to the scholarship’s expiration date or if the scholarship is revoked.
Eligibility:
Australian applicants above the age of 18, who possess a senior high school diploma or above, have shown excellent academic performance, and are of good moral character are eligible.
Candidates with one of the following qualifications may not apply:
- Is an overseas Chinese student or a national of the R.O.C. (Taiwan)
- Is currently registered as a student at a Mandarin Language Centre or has sought a degree from a university or college in Taiwan.
- Has already received a HES or a Taiwan Scholarship in the past.
- Is an exchange student to Taiwan during the scholarship commencement period.
- Is currently receiving financial benefits from the Taiwan government or another educational institution.

Date for Submission of Approved Admission Letter: 26 June, 2025
*Note: Applications should apply to the Mandarin Language Centre of a Taiwan university and follow the university’s regulations. Once admitted, the recipients should upload/ send a copy of Admission Letter to online application system for confirmation. Recipients who do not submit their Letters before 26 June, 2025 will be disqualified from the scholarship selection process.

Application Form and Supporting Documents:
Applications should include the following:
- A completed Application Form
- A copy of the applicant's Australian Passport or other documents that may verify nationality.
- A copy of the applicant's highest degree and academic transcripts (all certificates must be in English).
- A photocopy of the applicant's application to a Mandarin Language Centre in Taiwan.
- Two reference letters signed and sealed in envelopes (*we also accept applicants to send the letters via emails directly to the Committee at Australia@mail.moe.gov.tw)
- A signed Terms of Agreement Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program (HES) Form.
