The Taiwanese Association of Canberra, Australia, hosted a screening of the documentary Professor Chwei-Liang Chiou, celebrating a distinguished pioneer who dedicated his life to advancing Taiwan’s democracy and strengthening Taiwan–Australia relations.
Deputy Representative Regine Chen delivered remarks, expressing deep gratitude for Professor Chiou’s more than 50 years of service — from promoting a greater understanding of Taiwan among Australians, to supporting the Taiwanese community in Australia, and tirelessly advocating for Taiwan’s democracy and international standing.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, the Australian Federal Government awarded Professor Chiou the Centenary Medal in 2003. Deputy Representative Chen also extended appreciation to Director Lih-Kuei Chen and her team, who spent three years producing the documentary, capturing Professor Chiou’s spirit and legacy, and inspiring audiences with his vision and dedication. Special thanks were given to the Taiwanese Association of Canberra for organising the meaningful event.
As Taiwan’s representative office in Australia, TECO will continue to foster closer cooperation between Taiwan and Australia and promote greater understanding and support for Taiwan among Australians. The screening paid tribute to Professor Chwei-Liang Chiou — the “Brightest Star in the Southern Hemisphere” — whose enduring legacy continues to guide the path forward.
