Australian citizens are able to travel to Taiwan without a visa by Visa-Exempt Entry for stays of 90 days or less; other foreign citizens of eligible countries are able to travel toTaiwan for stays of 90 days or less, when they meet all requirements. Australian citizens intending to enter Taiwan temporarily and remain in Taiwan for longer than 90 days, as well as citizens of ineligible countries of Visa-Exempt Entry, are required to apply for a Visitor Visa. Depending on your nationality, Visitor Visas can be issued from a single entry to multiple entries. If a multiple-entry Visitor Visa is granted, multiple uses of a visa must be for the same purpose of travel allowable on the category of visa you have.

 

Validity of Visa

The time between visa issuance and expiration dates is called validity of visa. The validity of visa is the length of time you are permitted to travel to Taiwan. Generally, a Visitor Visa is valid from 3 months up to 1 year. For foreign citizens from the countries with which Taiwan has entered into reciprocal visa agreements, the validity of their Visitor Visas shall be determined in accordance with these agreements.

 

Duration of Stay

The length of your stay in Taiwan is called duration of stay. The duration of stay starts from the next day of arrival, and is not extendable if your permitted duration of stay is less than 60 days. You must leave Taiwan before the expiry of authorised duration of stay, or face removal and penalties. Onshore Visitor Visa holders who are permitted to stay 60 days or longer, and whose visas don’t have "No extension will be granted" condition, may apply for extension of stay at local service centres of the National Immigration Agency (NIA), Ministry of the Interior, within 15 days before expiry of authorised duration of stay. The maximum length of stay for Visitor Visa holders is 180 days. Granting permission to remain in Taiwan to foreign citizens holding a Visitor Visa is not the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Processing Time

Visa application is relly depend on case by case basis.Expedited services (suspened)for urgent application can be requested by paying additional 50% of visa fees. However, we cannot guarantee that your visa will be issued within the time as you requested.

 

Location of Application

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canberra can accept visa applications from people residing in the Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia.

General Required Documentations of Visa Application

  1. Completed application form: Please visithttps://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw to fill out the visa electronic application form. All visa application forms must be filled out online, printed, signed and have a readable barcode.
  2. Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of the visa application, and have at least 1 blank visa page.
  3. Two passport-sized photos: Photos must be recent (within 6 months), with a clear full face and front view image, ensuring the ears of the applicant are showing, in color. The background of the photos must be white.
  4. Fee: Payment of the visa fee (Fee Schedule) is required when lodging the application. Payment shall be in form of money order, bank cheque payable to the “Taipei Economic and Cultural Office” and cash. (only for application submitted in person). Credit card and personal cheque are not acceptable. Visa fee is generally non-refundable if the application is refused, and may by subject to adjustment at any time.
  5. Documents verifying the purpose of visit & other relevant documents
  6. Self-address, prepaid envelope or courier satchel: Applications lodged by post or courier should also include self-addressed postage prepaid envelope (Express Post Platinum, Express Post and Registered Post only) or courier satchel for the return of travel documents and visa.
  7. Valid Australia Visa Information (Please print out your visa Information from VEVO if holding an E-visa)

 

Visa Categories Chart

There are various categories of the Visitor Visa for temporary visitors to travel to Taiwan. The purpose of your intended travel and other facts will determine what category of visa is required. Please review the chart below detailing information specific to each visa category and its additional supporting documents that should accompany your application.

A 1.     For people taking up employment in Taiwan on a short-term basis.2.     For peopleas performers in a theatre or a concert, and people to support an entertainer or group of entertainers in relation to performing contracts inTaiwan. 1.     Approval letter issued by the Council of Labor Affairs.2.     Other additional documents may be required.
B For people travelling toTaiwan for a short business visit. This includes making a general business, investment or employment enquiry,consulting with business associates or partners, attending a business conference,negotiating a contract, conducting market research, or procurement. 1.     Evidence of business activities. (E.g. a letter from the company based in Australia on original letterhead detailing the nature of business, including theTaiwan based company the applicant will visit; or an invitation letter from the company inTaiwan. Self-employed people should bring proof of business registration.)2.     Proof of travel plan. (Flight booking records)3.     Other additional documents may be required. .
P 1.     For people to visitTaiwan for a holiday, sightseeing, tourism, social or recreational reasons; tovisit with relatives, friends.2.     For participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, ifnot being paid for participating;and for other short-term non-work purposes. 1.     Proof of finances.(E.g. most recent bank statement that reflects current account balance and shows sufficient funds to support the travel)2.     Proof of travel plan. (Flight booking records)3.     Proof of relative’s or friend’s residence inTaiwan. (E.g. Household Registration Transcript)-For visiting relatives or friends.4.     Proof of relationship to principal applicant. (E.g. Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Household Registration Transcript)-For visiting relatives and friends.5.     Evidence of activities (E.g. an invitation letter from the organiser of the event)-For participating in social events.6.     Other additional documents may be required. Evidence of your employment and/or your family ties may be sufficient to show the purpose of your trip and your intent to return to your home country. If you cannot cover all the costs for your trip, you may show evidence that another person will cover some or all costs for your trip to Taiwan.
IM For people traveling toTaiwan to attenda scientific, educational, professional convention or conference; or to attend an exhibition. 1.     Proof of travel plan. (Flight booking records)2.     Evidence of activities. (E.g. an invitation letter from the organiser of the event; or proof, confirmation of registration for specific event.)3.     Other additional documents may be required.
FR For people traveling toTaiwan to study Mandarin, not for credit toward a degree. 1.     An admission letter or a letter of acceptance issued by one of the Mandarin language institutes affiliated to universities accredited by the Ministry of Education.2.     Mandarin study plan. (Please describe your motive and plan for studying Mandarin)3.     Proof of travel plan. (Flight booking records)4.     Proof of finances.(E.g. Most recent bank statement that reflects current account balance and shows sufficient funds to support the travel)5.     Other additional documents may be required. 1.     For more information on accredited Mandarin language institutes, please visit the Ministry of Education Website Visitor Visa holders who need to apply for extension of stay should submit certificate of enrolment and attendance record when lodging application at the local service centres of the National Immigration Agency.3.     Visitor Visa holders who have already studied Mandarin for 4 months and carry on their enrolment for at least 3 months, may apply for converting to a Resident Visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Detailed information about change of visa can be found on the Bureau of Consular Affairs website .
FT For people traveling toTaiwan to attend short-term training or internship. 1.     Approval letter issued by the Investment Commission, Ministry of Economic Affairs, or other competent authorities.2.     Proof of travel plan. (Flight booking records)3.     Other additional documents may be required.
M For people traveling toTaiwan to seek medical treatment. 1.     Proof of finances.(E.g. most recent bank statement that reflects current account balance and shows sufficient funds that can pay for all medical-related expenses in Taiwan); or Payment plan consented by the medical institution in Taiwan.2.     Medical diagnosis from a local physician, explaining the nature of the ailment and the reason you need treatment in Taiwan.3.     Letter from the medical institution inTaiwan stating they are willing to treat your specific ailment.4.     Treatment plan from the medical institution inTaiwanincluding the projected length and cost of treatment. For family members supporting the person who is having medical treatment in Taiwan, they can apply for category “P” visa.
V For people traveling toTaiwan as volunteers. 1.     Approval letter issued by the Ministry of the Interior.2.     Proof of finances.(E.g. most recent bank statement that reflects current account balance and shows sufficient funds to support the travel)3.     Proof of travel plan. 1. Please fill in an Arrival Card for immigration inspection upon arrival each time.
