The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) and Children’s Chinese Competency Certification (CCCC), developed by the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency Taiwan (SCTOP), is a set of standardised language proficiency test developed for non-native speakers of Chinese that has already served test-takers from more than 60 countries and regions worldwide. TOCFL has been offered to Mandarin learners in Australia for the 12th year in a row.
In 2019, the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia will be holding TOCFL and CCCC at four venues of three different states in Australia. It is worth noting that Canberra and Melbourne venues will be officially holding the tests for the first time in Australia, on 15 September and 3 November.
Dr. Aaron Chen, Executive Director of the Education Division, took part in the networking events on 18 May and 19 May, subsequently hosted by the principals of Formosa Chinese School and Springvale Chinese Ethnic School in Melbourne to encourage the participating principals and teachers from many Chinese schools in Melbourne to have their students take the tests.
On 25 May, again Executive Director Chen met up with Mandarin teachers in Canberra and Goulburn to introduce the benefits of taking TOCFL and CCCC. Chen pointed out both tests as a learning tool giving both the teachers and their students feedback about their developing language proficiency, students who passed TOCFL at Level 3 and above will be considered highly if they apply for Taiwan Scholarship offered by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan. In addition, Chinese language skills might prove vital for securing employment opportunities in Asia.
