Queensland Taiwanese Community Rallies in Brisbane to Support Taiwan's WHA Participation
On May 17, the Taiwanese Association of Queensland held a vibrant rally at Brisbane’s iconic King George Square, calling for Taiwan’s inclusion in the World Health Assembly (WHA). The event drew enthusiastic support from local Taiwanese and international friends alike.
Director-General William Fan of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brisbane attended the event with his spouse, joining Queensland Taiwan Centre Director Owen Ouyang, TAQ President Soon-Lai Chen, and many community leaders to voice strong support for Taiwan. DG Fan emphasized that the World Health Organization (WHO) should uphold professionalism and neutrality, and urged the international community to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in global health efforts as a WHA observer.
Cultural performances by the Australian Taiwan Indigenous Association and the Tai Chi Bagua Society delighted the crowd. Two vibrant techno San Tai Zi figures paraded through the square, waving Taiwan flags and signs advocating Taiwan’s WHA inclusion, attracting crowds of onlookers and photo-seekers.
Hundreds of attendees joined in chanting “Health for All” and “Taiwan Can Help,” drawing the attention of diverse Australian communities and tourists. The event concluded with delicious Taiwanese snacks and drinks generously provided by local Taiwanese businesses, leaving hearts warmed and voices united in support of Taiwan.
