We thank the 79 Members of Parliament of the Formosa Club from 28 parliaments in Europe and Canada for issuing a joint statement, expressing concern over China's military intimidation against Taiwan, which escalates tension and seeks to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
The joint statement also emphasises that it is the duty and right of democratically elected parliamentarians to travel internationally, including to Taiwan to promote the basic values of democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. Such travel should not be used as a pretext for any kind of military intimidation against Taiwan.
The Formosa Club demands that China not unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and stresses that it will continue to demonstrate solidarity and support for Taiwan through means of mutual visits, dialogues, and cooperation, to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Our sincere thanks to the Formosa Club for this important joint statement.
