Ambassador Ming-Yen Tsai published an op-ed entitled "Taiwan, the bulwark against China's authoritarianism" in the Luxemburger Wort on 21 August.
The article emphasises that China is using the visit of US House Speaker Pelosi to Taiwan as a pretext for military advances that not only threaten Taiwan's security but also raise regional tensions.
China has long used a combination of threats to undermine Taiwan's democratic institutions. Taiwan has always been on the front line in defending democratic values and preventing the expansion of Chinese authoritarianism.
Taiwan is grateful to the G7 Foreign Ministers, Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Commission for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, and key members of 28 parliaments, including the European Parliament, for their public concern about the situation in the Taiwan Strait and their strong support for democracy in Taiwan, Tsai adds.
Finally, the Ambassador writes that the government, society and people of Taiwan have shown a high level of determination and resilience in defending a democratic way of life and hope that democratic partners around the world will strengthen their cooperation to uphold the rules-based international security and economic order.
