Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium expresses its sincere thanks to Formosa Club Europe Chapter for passing a joint statement in support of Taiwan’s international participation and enhanced Europe-Taiwan cooperation at its 2026 Spring Gathering held at the European Parliament on 6 May.
The statement affirms the importance of peace and stability and the freedom of navigation in the Taiwan Strait, and the Formosa Club’s commitment to deepening cooperation between Taiwan and Europe. It recognizes Taiwan’s indispensable and increasingly strategic role in supporting Europe’s resilience-building efforts, and that Taiwan is central to building trusted, non-red supply chains.
The statement also stressed that the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 does not take a position on Taiwan, and that Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, their meetings and mechanisms, including the upcoming World Health Assembly, can benefit the international community.
It further supports the international engagement by Taiwan’s democratically elected leaders, pointing out that they should be allowed to enjoy the freedom of visiting Taiwan’s allies. Any attempts to deny that right, the statement reads, for example, through the instrumentalization of overflight rights, must not be supported.
Ambassador Shieh Jhy-Wey and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador François Wu, attended the Spring Gathering, where Deputy Minister Wu was invited to deliver a speech on Taiwan’s values as a trusted, democratic partner for Europe. They joined a cocktail reception at the European Parliament in the evening with members of the Formosa Club and the European Parliament, and enjoyed a wide-ranging exchange of views.
