The Sun Yat-sen Chinese School in Belgium (Ecole Sun Yat Sen de Belgique) grandly celebrated its 60th anniversary and graduation ceremony on June 20. Ambassador Shieh, accompanied by colleagues from the Representative Office, gathered with Chairwoman Liu Miao-er, Principal Dai, numerous community leaders, teachers, students, and parents to jointly witness this historic milestone.
In his remarks, Ambassador Shieh brought his signature literary humor to the venue, offering a witty wordplay in both Chinese and English to redefine the true spirit of "Zhong Shan" (Sun Yat-sen):
"Zhong" stands for "Join": The school is not only a "Center" for Chinese language education but also a vital link that deeply connects Taiwan and Belgium, the beauty of traditional characters, and European diversity.
"Shan" stands for "Mountain" (Taiwan): He deconstructed the word "Mountain" into a meaningful and heartfelt acronym: Manners, Openness, Uniqueness (Taiwan's irreplaceable values), Nurture, and Taiwan (our beloved homeland).
Since becoming Europe’s second Overseas Partner Relationship Hub in 2016, the Sun Yat-sen Chinese School in Belgium has stood as Taiwan's most brilliant cultural beacon in the country, making every teacher and student a superb grassroots ambassador.
In closing, Ambassador Shieh extended his special thanks to the entire faculty and staff team for nurturing bright talents with ultimate care. He wished the school everlasting prosperity and continuous growth, and encouraged all graduates to achieve boundless success and reach new heights in their future academic journeys.
