On the evening of the 7th, Ambassador Kenneth Chiu and his wife hosted this year's "Taiwan Night" event in Canada. The event took place at the Sir John A Macdonald Building in the Canadian Parliament, with enthusiastic participation from Canadian Members of Parliament, government officials, representatives from various sectors including politics, academia, overseas Chinese communities, business, science and technology, journalism, and diplomatic corps. Among the attendees were Chair of the Canada-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, MP Judy Sgro, Co-Chair Michael MacDonald, MP; Acting Minister of Parliamentary Affairs for the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Oliphant; Acting Parliamentary Affairs Advisor for the Canadian Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, Randeep Sara; Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, Ali Ehsassi; Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence, John McKay; Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, Michael Chong; Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, Stéphane Bergeron; Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence, Christine Normandin; Michael Cooper, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, and more than 70 federal senators and members of parliament. Also in attendance were officials from various federal departments including the Prime Minister's Office, the Privy Council Office, the Department of Global Affairs, the Department of National Defence, the Department of International Trade and Development, the Public Health Agency, and the Border Services Agency. Additionally, diplomats from 19 countries including the United States, Japan, Australia, Italy, South Korea, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, the European Union, Estonia, Lithuania, Iceland, Bulgaria, Uruguay, Brazil, and friendly countries of the Republic of China such as Haiti, Guatemala, Paraguay, Saint Kitts and Nevis, totaling nearly 40 diplomats, were present. In total, there were over 400 guests in attendance, contributing to the success of the event.
