General Requirements:
You MUST present the following when you apply for a resident visa, regardless of age. For those who intend to stay in the Republic of China for less than six months for the purpose of joining family, pursuing studies, accepting employment, making investments, doing missionary work or engaging in other permissible activities should apply for visitor visa.
*Notice: The applicant’s nationality, the purpose of coming to Taiwan, or an approval letter from the competent authority will determine the details of the visa review and required documents. For a resident visa application, it must be differentiated according to the purpose of coming to Taiwan and the status of the dependent object (for example, if there is a foreign spouse of a person with household registration in Taiwan who comes to Taiwan to rely on relatives, or the dependent person is a foreigner and holds a resident permit, etc.) Please follow the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs regulations to handle the dependent residence visa and submit the application after preparing the relevant documents. The office will retain any documents that depend on the needs of individual review.
- Your passport that will remain valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival at Taiwan. For applicants with Canadian landed immigrant or employment authorization status, please also submit the original official record for our reference.
- Duly completed application form for each applicant. Your telephone or fax number should be stated clearly. Online Application Form: https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw. Print and sign on the second page.
- Attach two 45mm x 35mm(1.77 inches long x 1.38 inches wide) head and shoulder photos in color with white background taken within the last 6 months (see information for visitor visa for detailed regulation).
- Your bank account balance statement was issued in the last 3 months with your name shown. For a minor applicant, at least one of the parents’ balance statements should be provided. The fund balance should be sufficient for your stay in Taiwan for the period stated in your application form and travel itinerary.
- A photocopy of the airline ticket or tentative travel itinerary.
- Supporting documents:
- For purpose of employment, an original work permit issued by Ministry of Labor
- For purpose of joining family,
- Proof of family relationship such as marriage or birth certificate
- A criminal record check with fingerprints issued by Royal Canadian Mounted Police and legalized by this office (please click on Legalization for more info)
- A Health Certificate for Residence Application signed by the family physician, then legalized by this office (please click on Legalization for more info)
- A marriage registration issued by Canadian authorities.
- For purpose of study,
- An original official letter of enrollment from an institution approved and recognized by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan.

DON’T make irrevocable travel plans prior to obtaining your visa. Please DON’T apply if you are NOT going to enter Taiwan in 3 months.
Non-refundable Fees. Payment is ONLY accepted by Cash, Money Order, Bank Draft or Certified Cheque, which must be made payable to “Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada” or " Taipei Eco. & Cul. Office in Canada." Personal cheque is NOT accepted.
