To celebrate the Year of the Snake, the Cape Town Taiwanese Hakka Association held a Spring Festival event on January 12. President Hua invited over 60 members, the Taiwanese community, and South African friends to participate in activities such as painting Hakka-style paper umbrellas and fans, and creating Spring Festival couplets, offering a hands-on experience of the beauty of Hakka art and the festive traditions of Taiwan.
The event was divided into three groups, each equipped with painting and calligraphy materials. Participants chose activities according to their preferences, including umbrella painting, fan painting, and couplet writing. During the showcase, everyone joyfully posed with their creations for photos, filling the venue with a rich Hakka artistic atmosphere and the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year.
The subsequent banquet featured a variety of traditional dishes brimming with festive and homely flavors, comforting members of the Taiwanese community longing for home. The highlight of the feast was the serving of Hakka savory rice dumplings, symbolizing reunion and completeness, leaving everyone with warm hearts and full stomachs.
