Chungyuan Pudu Ceremony at MarTzu Temple Cape Town

On 23 August, Mar Tzu Temple Cape Town held its annual Chungyuan Pudu ceremony for the Ghost(Chungyuan) Festival.
Following Taiwanese tradition, participants offered incense and prayers to the deities and spirits, respectfully known as “Good Brothers” in Taiwan. The ceremony included the reading of a traditional prayer and the presentation of food offerings, flowers, fruit and ceremonial wine.
Guests also enjoyed Taiwanese dishes, including sticky rice, assorted braised dishes, savoury rice cakes and stir-fried rice noodles. The Taipei Liaison Office in Cape Town sponsored some of the offerings in support of this important community tradition.
