Director General Jin-Ling Chen was invited to share her experience at the CanWIN global Summit held by APFC at the first panel titled “Industry Insights: Women Leadership.”DG Chen shared her perspective as a female diplomat, pointing out that since 1996, Taiwan has removed restrictions on female diplomats, and now the number of female diplomats admitted exceeds that of males.
When asked about the impact of having Tsai Ing-wen as Taiwan's first female president over the past eight years on gender equality, DG Chen pointed out that government gender equality policies have significant impacts. To take diplomacy for example, women now make up half of the mid-level managers in Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and approximately 14% of Taiwan's overseas missions are headed by women. To take Canada for example, aside from the male ambassador, the Consuls General in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal are all women, representing an even higher proportion.
