Director-General Jinling Chen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, along with her colleagues and Cultural Director Paul Lan, attended the 85th Embro Highland Games in Oxford County. They were joined by Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan, local MPP Ernie Hardeman, and friends from the Taiwanese community in Toronto, at the invitation of event chair Geoff Innes, to celebrate Canada Day on July 1st.
Director-General Chen expressed her honor in being invited for the third year to the Embro Highland Games. She also thanked Chairman Edward of the Canadian Mackay Committee and the Taiwanese friends in Toronto for their annual efforts in organizing and performing wonderful Taiwanese cultural programs. She welcomed everyone to visit Taiwan to see the schools and hospitals Mackay established over a century ago, enjoy the scenery of Tamsui, and experience Taiwanese tourism, culture, and cuisine.
The Embro Highland Games is an important annual event in Oxford County, Ontario, celebrating Scottish culture. The event features an exciting lineup, including bagpipe bands, tug-of-war, caber toss, weightlifting, and a dog parade, attracting thousands of attendees.
The Canadian Mackay Committee, along with over a hundred Taiwanese-Canadians in Ontario, enthusiastically participated this year. They performed the story of Mackay's wife, "A Formosa Cinderella-Chang-A," through a lively puppet show interspersed with live performances and music.
