Did you know that Winnipeg City of Winnipeg - Municipal Government, the capital of Manitoba, and Taichung City in Taiwan have been sister cities for many years?? They have been sister cities since 1982.
To celebrate Winnipeg's 150th anniversary, a special Sister Cities Day was held on July 7 at The Forks to strengthen cultural and historical ties with its 11 sister cities. As a senior sister city, Taichung couldn't miss out on the party.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto was invited to participate in the event, and the Manitoba Chinese Cultural Association Inc. was asked to set up a booth to help promote Taichung City and Taiwan tourism.
At this event, representatives from the Manitoba Chinese Cultural Association Inc. presented Taichung City’s famous sun cakes, pineapple cakes, commemorative badges featuring the city bird, tree, and flower, as well as scenic postcards to City of Winnipeg - Municipal Government Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham, city officials, and Ms. Jennifer Chen, MLA for Fort Richmond
T Manitoba Chinese Cultural Association Inc. also helped promote the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications' "TAIWAN-Waves Of Wonder". Visitors to the booth could watch promotional videos, explore Taiwanese culture, arts, cuisine, and attractions. The booth also offered delicious sun cakes, pineapple cakes, and Panda Tea bubble tea for local citizens to sample. It was a day of fun, food, and festivities.
