Fraud cases are constantly emerging, and recently, several Taiwanese compatriots have reported painful experiences of being scammed, not knowing how to proceed afterward!
TECO would like to share some tips provided by the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre on how to handle such situations:
1. Collect your thoughts: Stay calm and gather all information related to the fraud.
2. Contact your bank: If you are a victim of identity fraud, place flags on all your bank accounts, change all your passwords, and report the fraud to both credit bureaus (Equifax and TransUnion).
3. Contact the police: If the amount involved in the fraud is less than CAD 5,000, you can file a report directly on the police website. If the amount is over CAD 5,000, please contact the police directly to report the incident.
4. Report the incident: Depending on the type of fraud or how it occurred, you may also need to report it to other organizations.
5. Protect yourself: Share your experience with friends and family to prevent others from becoming victims. Also, be cautious, as scammers may attempt to defraud you again.
