Deputy Director-General Nicolas Hong on Jan.1, representing Director-General Liang, joined leaders and representatives from Taiwanese associations, their families, and other members of the Taiwanese community in Toronto for the 114th ROC (Taiwan) New Year’s Day Flag Raising Ceremony hosted by the Chinese Community Centre of Ontario.
Deputy Director-General Hong expressed gratitude to all friends of Taiwan—both in Canada and internationally—for their efforts in strengthening Taiwan-Canada collaboration in the past year. Milestones included signing the FIPA agreement, opening a new office in Montreal, and Canada's Parliament passing resolutions supporting Taiwan's global participation and countering China’s misinterpretation of UN Resolution 2758. These achievements have amplified Taiwan's voice on the world stage.
Quoting President Lai Ching-te’s New Year address, "Strengthening national power through democracy and embracing a new global landscape," Deputy Director-General Hong called for unity among democratic nations to confront authoritarian challenges. He urged overseas communities to continue supporting efforts to deepen partnerships with allies and like-minded countries, enhance the resilience of democratic industrial supply chains, and promote regional peace, stability, and global economic prosperity.
