The Association of Taiwanese Organizations in Toronto opened the Exhibition of 228 Peace Memorial and Commemorative on February 24 at 13:00 in Committee Room 2 of the Toronto North York Civic Centre. The Association's convenor, Wei-Chih Lin, and the vice president of the Taiwanese Canadian Association of Toronto, Michael Chen hosted the event.
Attendees lit candles, laid flowers, observed moments of silence, listened to speeches, watched a video of the memorial 228 events, and sang a chorus with attendees in memory of the 228 victims. The celebration was also a tribute to the motivation provided by the events of 228. By displaying these priceless historical artifacts, the public can gain a deeper understanding of those who fought for human rights and democracy in Taiwan.
The commemorative exhibition will run from February 24 to March 3 in the North York Civic Centre's grand floor hall. Large numbers of photographs, artifacts, and other documents relating to the events of 228 are on display at this memorial exhibition. These priceless artifacts will help convey the significance of those who sacrificed their lives in Taiwan in the fight for democracy and human rights.
Jin-ling Chen, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, Paul Lan and Pei-Chen Hsu, Director, and Deputy Director of TECO's Cultural Centre, as well as OCAC Council Members Peter Huang and Maggie Lin, were present to pay their respects. There were also about 60 people present, including Dr. Albert Lin, a retired professor from Toronto's Ryerson University, Toronto City Councilor Lily Chen, former Canadian official Dr. Keith Chang and Canadian friends.
