The Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto and the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America jointly held the CPTPP for Taiwan Symposium on the afternoon of May 20, 2023 in Markham. The symposium delved into the discussion of the benefits of Taiwan's accession to the CPTPP for bilateral economic development between Taiwan and Canada, and a joint statement supporting Taiwan's accession to the CPTPP was issued.
Minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Hsu Chia-ching, and Taiwan Ambassador to Canada, Harry Tseng, expressed their support through recorded videos. Director-General Chen Jin-ling, along with Members of Parliament Judy Sgro, Salma Zahid, Melissa Lantsman, and Philip Lawrence, were invited to attend and deliver speeches, expressing their support for Taiwan's accession to the CPTPP, which would be beneficial for both Taiwan and Canada, and further strengthen bilateral economic, trade, and investment exchanges. Director-General Chen emphasized that Taiwan and the United States are about to sign the 21st Century Trade Initiative, demonstrating that Taiwan meets the highest standards of global trade requirements, and hopes to see the positive progress on Taiwan’s inclusion to the CPTPP as well.
