Translation Legalization

Disclaimer and Important Notice
- We can only legalize translations of documents whose untranslated original has previously been legalized by us. To see how legalizations of ordinary Swiss documents work at our office, please check here.
- Under no circumstance can we translate a document for you. The translation has to be made either by you or by a translator.
- If you have translated the document by yourself, you need to come to our Délégation with the Chinese translation in person. You will declare in front of the consular officer that this translation is a true and correct Chinese version of the attached original to the best of your knowledge and belief. You will sign this statement under the eyes of the consular officer, who will attest your signature. Please call to make an appointment beforehand and bring your passport (and also your resident permit of Switzerland or Liechtenstein if you're not a Swiss or Liechtenstein citizen). Alternatively, you could make an appointment with a public notary, and sign the same statement in front of the notary. The signature of the notary then needs to be legalized by one of the chancellery of states in Switzerland (Staatskanzlei/ Chancellerie d'Etat) or the federal chancellery of Switzerland (Bundeskanzlei/Chancellerie Fédérale) before you send it to us.
- If the translation was made by a translator, it needs to be notarized by a public notary and legalized by one of the chancellery of states in Switzerland (Staatskanzlei/ Chancellerie d'Etat) or the federal chancellery of Switzerland (Bundeskanzlei/Chancellerie Fédérale) before you send it to us.

How to apply for a Translation Legalization

Applications for Legalizations need to contain all of the following documents:

Original document legalized by our office
Original Translation of the document
Copies of the original document and the original translation
Completely fulfilled and signed application form (For firms, please fill out No. 1, 2 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; for private applicants No. 1 to 10.) (If you apply for a legalization of a document and a legalization of the translation of this document at the same time, you can use one form for both documents)
Fee. If we need to legalize the original document before legalizing the translation, it costs CHF 28 in total (CHF 14 for the legalization of the original document + CHF 14 for the legalization of the translation)
A prepaid registered envelope addressed to you so we can return your documents back to you (CHF 5.80, Swiss Post). (If you apply for a legalization of a document and a legalization of the translation of this document at the same time, we will send both back in one letter)
Further documents depending on the nature of the applicant (If you apply for a legalization of a document and a legalization of the translation of this document at the same time, the following documents need to be handed in only once):

7a) For Private Applicants legalizing personal documents:

a copy of your passport

7b) For Firms legalizing business documents:

a copy of the firm's registry of commerce (Handelsregisterauszug). If you want to legalize a power of attorney, the issuer of the power of attorney must be listed in the registry of commerce as an authorized signatory for the firm (Unterschriftsberechtigter).

7c) For Agents legalizing documents on behalf of someone else:

a letter of attorney and a copy of both client's and agent's identity card/passport or Commercial Register (Handelsregisterauszug). The Letter of Attorney issued to the agent needs to content the period of validity and must be legalized by one of the chancellery of states in Switzerland (Staatskanzlei/Chancellerie d'Etat) or the federal chancellery of Switzerland (Bundeskanzlei/Chancellerie Fédérale.)
