We welcome anyone interested in Taiwan and/or the Mandarin language to apply for this scholarship. This year, we have a great number of scholarships available and look forward to reviewing applications and meeting successful candidates.
Purpose
The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) Program, sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and implemented by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague, aims to encourage Czech students and individuals to pursue Mandarin Chinese studies at university- or college-affiliated Mandarin training centers in Taiwan. The program also seeks to provide recipients with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society while promoting mutual understanding and interactions between Taiwan and the international community.
Scholarship and Duration
- A monthly stipend of NT$28,000 (Approx. 853 USD);
- The scholarships are awarded for durations of 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Please consider this when submitting your application.
- In principle, the scholarship period runs from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026. However, students enrolling in short summer courses in 2025 are also eligible. Recipients who fail to travel to Taiwan and enroll during the designated period will forfeit their scholarships.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Be 18 years of age or older, a high school graduate or above, hold Czech nationality, have an excellent academic record in their most recent formal education, and have no criminal record.
- Must not be a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
- Must not have the status of an overseas Chinese student.
- Must not be currently enrolled in a Mandarin training center and must have never been a degree-seeking student at any university or college in Taiwan.
- Must not be an exchange student under an agreement between an international university/college and a Taiwanese educational institution at the time of receiving the HES.
- Must not have previously received an award under this scholarship program or the Taiwan Scholarship Program.
- Must not be a recipient of any other scholarship or financial aid from the Taiwan government or any other educational institution in Taiwan.
Required Application Documents
- One printed copy of the digitally completed application form. Any other versions of the form or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- One photocopy of the applicant's passport.
- One photocopy of the highest-level diploma and a complete academic transcript. If the applicant is currently enrolled in an educational institution, a transcript of current studies must also be provided.
- Two signed letters of recommendation.
- Photocopies of the applicant’s Mandarin Language Center application. If an admission letter has already been received, it should be included as well.

- Scholarship applications must be submitted by April 16th, 2025. Please ensure all required documents are completed and submitted before this deadline.
