Results or certificates from other Chinese proficiency tests will not be accepted.
- If an applicant is unable to take the TOCFL due to geographical constraints or other factors, they may request special approval from the local Taiwan Representative Office. If approved, their application will be treated as if the TOCFL is not offered in their region.
- If the TOCFL test is not administeredby the local Taiwan Representative Office, applicants who have not submitted their test results or certificate at Level 3 or above must take the test at their own expense by the end of their first semester in Taiwan. Upon completion, applicants must submit their TOCFL test results or certificate to their university or college in Taiwan. If an applicant transfers to another university or college after their first semester, their starting semester at the new institution will still be considered their second semester. They cannot claim it as their “first semester” in relation to this language requirement.
(2) For applications to programs fully taught in English:
The local Taiwan Representative Office will determine whether an applicant is exempt from submitting TOCFL test results or a TOCFL certificate. If an applicant is exempt, they must instead submit TOEFL/IELTS test scores meeting the required standards or another recognized English proficiency exam accepted by the local government. Alternatively, applicants may submit proof of graduation from an English-language degree program. Applicants who are citizens of countries where English is an official language are not required to submit English proficiency test results. The English-language degree program the applicant is applying for must be accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE). If the program has not been accredited by the MOE, the applicant must obtain an official document from the university or college (not a subsidiary department or unit) confirming that the program is fully taught in English.
