The government of Taiwan has announced three waves of international COVID-19-combating assistance in April and May respectively. As of May 5th, 2020, an estimated 5 million masks have been donated. Under the initiative, Hungary, on the list of the third-wave recipient countries, is to receive 100,000 masks. This humanitarian donation showcases Taiwan’s corroborating support to the Hungary government’s various efforts to provide much-needed medical supplies into the hands of frontline healthcare professionals who are still bravely battling against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taipei Representative Office in Hungary conducted a simple and solemn hand-over ceremony at the National Healthcare Service Center (EEK, designated as the recipient agency) on May 28, 2020. Representative Yun-ping Chang handed over 40 cartons of masks to Dr. Gyula Budai, Member of the Hungarian National Assembly, to highlight this pivotal and auspicious moment of the bilateral relations. Dr. Istvan Tiba, Chairman of the Taiwan-Hungarian Parliamentary Friendship Association was present at the ceremony to attest the token of friendship from Taiwan.
During past few years, Taiwan and Hungary has adhered to steadfast cooperation and exchanges in the areas of trade, investment, technology and culture. Both sides have worked to mutual benefits and friendship. Taiwan’s humanitarian donation will definitely facilitate a platform conducive to future cooperation with Hungary in healthcare research and technology. By forging a strong partnership in the combat against epidemic such as COVID-19, Taiwan and Hungary could help and in contributing to global mechanism in public health and safeguarding medical security of all humanity.
