The Taiwan government's Central Epidemic Command Center announced that from August 1, 2020, foreign nationals will be allowed to go to Taiwan for medical treatment on certain conditions. The relevant points and requirements for visa application are as follows:
- Only applies to special medical foreign national patients (including transplant operations, cancer treatments, reproductive drugs, or types of disease approved by the central authority). They can submit applications through Taiwan medical institutions to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
- Does not apply to non-urgent medical needs such as medical examinations and aesthetic medicine.
- Maximum number of assistants is 2 people. Relationships with patients should only be children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, siblings and nieces. If needed can add one medical staff or nurse to assist.
- Patients who apply for medical treatment must submit an application to the Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare to obtain a medical treatment permit and can apply for a medical visa with the following conditions:
(1) Taiwan medical institutions will provide quarantine plans and medical plans to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
(2) Attach a health insurance certificate (health insurance value of more than 30,000 US dollars or financial proof documents).
(3) Fill out the quarantine statement: a statement stating that it will comply with Taiwanese government regulations to carry out quarantine actions, and cover all quarantine, inspection and medical costs while in Taiwan.
- Starting August 1 during the pandemic period for foreign nationals who will submit a medical visa must prepare the following documents: "Approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare", visa application form, photocopy of family card, original passport and photocopy of the applicant, 2 pieces of color photographs with white background, hospital diagnosis certificate, financial certificate, evidence of patient and companion relations, certificate of medical staff who accompanied him.
- Those who have already obtained a visa to go to Taiwan, when boarding the plane, besides attaching a negative COVID-19 PCR test result in the English version valid within 3 days before departure, when entering Taiwan they still have to undergo quarantine for 14 days. PCR tests must also be obtained again when the quarantine period ends. If the results of tests with negative tests can be treated at a medical institution to receive medical services, if there is an emergency medical need and require medical treatment, then the medical institution will arrange to be treated in a special ward or hospital isolation ward. The results after one test are negative, will still receive medical treatment. During the quarantine period of 14 days, it is necessary to follow the COVID-19 protocol.
