On the 17th November 2017, Representative Simon S.K. Tu was invited to attend the Irish Exporters Association’s (IEA) prestigious annual “Export Industry Awards” in famous Clayton Burlington Hotel. Over six hundred people, including VIPs from Government, business, industry, think tanks and the Diplomatic Corps were in attendance at the event. Amongst those attending was Minister of State for Higher Education Mary Mitchell O'Connor, Ms. Julie Sinnamon CEO of Enterprise Ireland (EI), Ambassadors and delegates from many major companies and enterprises.
Speaking with the IEA’s CEO Mr. Simon McKeever, Representative Tu mentioned of the increasingly close bilateral economic and trade relations between Ireland and Taiwan. He in particular mentioned the total trade volume between Ireland and Taiwan increasing by 29% in the past year and Ireland becoming Taiwan’s 12th largest trading partner in the EU, up from 17th last year. In partnership with Taiwan’s free and open democratic society, there remains much scope for development in this relationship in particular in the areas of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, ICT and green energy.
The IEA’s annual “Export Industry Awards” recognises the outstanding achievements of 2,000 Irish exporters in the past year. This year’s Awards were hotly contested with fifty-nine major exporting companies being nominated for 10 separate Awards with the winners showcasing the very best that Irish business has to offer.
