Taiwanese legislator Chen Ching-Min, a former nurse, is the founder and chair of the Taiwan-Ireland Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association. She is also the first Taiwanese fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in its nearly 250-year history.
Invited by the Chair of the Ireland-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Society and TD John McGuinness, as well as the Secretary-General of the Society and Senator Diarmuid Wilson, on 17th May, legislator Chen delivered a speech at the Irish Parliament titled "Taiwan and the World, a look at how global health can be improved: Discussion with a Taiwanese nursing lawmaker." From the perspective of a nurse and legislator, she elaborated on how Taiwan can contribute to enhancing global public health. Approximately 24 bipartisan parliamentarians attended the event.
Chair John McGuinness introduced legislator Chen Ching-Min at the beginning, highlighting the importance of diverse professional backgrounds and gender balance in the Irish Parliament. Representative Yang Tzu-Pao, who was invited to attend the event, expressed gratitude to the Irish Parliament for providing a platform for Taiwan to voice its views. He also thanked the Ireland-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Society for issuing a statement in support of Taiwan's participation in the WHO. Representative Yang expressed his expectations for continued deepening, strengthening, and expanding of exchanges and cooperation between parliamentarians from both Taiwan and Ireland.
