Ahead of the opening of the 2026 World Health Assembly (WHA), the Taipei Representative Office in Ireland, the Taiwan Ireland Association, the Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association in Ireland, and the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese gathered together over the weekend to voice support for Taiwan’s participation in the WHA.
Ambassador Daniel Tang noted that Taiwan’s healthcare system, professional expertise, and efficiency have long been recognized internationally. During the global pandemic several years ago, although Taiwan was not a member of the World Health Organization (WHO), it still proactively shared early alerts through all feasible channels and continued cooperating with global partners in the hope of reducing the impact on people’s health and daily lives around the world.
Ambassador Tang also emphasized that although Taiwan was not invited to attend the WHA this year, Taiwan continues to seize every opportunity to demonstrate both its professional capabilities and willingness to contribute to the world. Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung and Minister of Health and Welfare Shih Chung-liang are currently in Geneva engaging with international partners and sharing Taiwan’s achievements in smart healthcare, public health cooperation, and humanitarian assistance.
He also thanked members of the Taiwanese community in Ireland for their longstanding support for Taiwan’s international participation, helping more people from different backgrounds better understand Taiwan, as well as the resilience and kindness of its people.
Eric Lin, Chairperson of the Taiwan Ireland Association, shared that no matter whether in Taiwan or overseas, Taiwanese people have never backed down from international challenges. Instead, through individual and collective efforts, they continue helping the world see and better understand Taiwan. This year, Taiwanese community groups in Ireland once again launched a petition campaign to share the message that Taiwan cares and Taiwan can help.
Health is an issue faced by every person, every family, and every nation. Only through timely exchange and cooperation can knowledge and experience become a force that protects us all.
