Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), is leading a delegation to Taiwan from 20-25 September at the invitation of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. In the presence of the Ministry, IITGN signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with National Central University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and National Taipei University of Technology to strengthen cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced engineering, and other cutting-edge fields.
Taiwan-India exchanges in higher education, Huayu education, and research have grown significantly over the past decade. In 2026, 974 Indian students pursued doctoral degrees in Taiwan, ranking second among all countries, after Indonesia with 1,081 students.
Located in Gujarat, where the Indian government is actively developing a semiconductor ecosystem, IITGN plays an important role in semiconductor research, industry collaboration, and talent development. With support from India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Government of Gujarat, IITGN established the Silicon and Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Research and Training Hub (SAMARTH) and launched programs such as Integrated Circuit Design and Technology (ICDT) to cultivate advanced semiconductor talent.
Through this visit, Taiwan and India aim to leverage Taiwan’s strengths in higher education and its semiconductor industry ecosystem to attract high-caliber Indian talent in AI, semiconductors, and advanced technology design, while strengthening partnerships in talent development. The delegation will visit leading Taiwanese universities, including National Cheng Kung University, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, National Central University, as well as the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Center and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC).
