Supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the 2026 Taiwan Film Festival took place on October 31 in Mumbai, drawing an enthusiastic audience of Indian cinephiles and local Taiwanese diaspora. Speaking with the participants, Director General Homer Chang noted that Mumbai is the powerhouse of India’s film industry. Marking the festival’s debut in the city, he hoped that the event will foster closer collaboration between India and Taiwan across the cinematic and cultural sectors.
The opening film, HERO! HITO!, chronicled a baseball team’s journey from rank underdogs to world champions, highlighting the grit and tenacity of Taiwan's youth. Serving as the festival's finale, Deep Quiet Room mesmerized viewers by interweaving past and present with seamless editing, provoking a profound reflection on the transmission of generational trauma and the enduring toll of abuse. As the credits rolled, heartfelt applause filled the room, bringing the festival to a memorable close and paving the way for exciting new chapters plus more profound understanding in India-Taiwan relations.
