To Celebrate UNESCO’s World Book Day 23rd April, the Connemara Public Library, Egmore opened its historic building to the public. More than 200 volumes of rare books were displayed. Apart from the humongous collection of books, visitors also adored the wood-carved archways and the stained glass windows. The library was founded in 1890 by Lord Connemara, the Governor of Madras in the British colonial government. Conceptualized and designed by H Irving, the then-consulting architect to Government of Madras, the building follows the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture
Director-General Charles Li went to the grand gathering to show his support and also admired the 122 year old heritage of the building.
