To promote bilateral relations, Mr. Ben Wang, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai (TECC), along with staffs have been invited to visit the Union Territory Capital of Pondicherry by Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on the 5th February 2021.
The two parties have a conversation on how to promote Pondicherry to attract Taiwanese investments. It has been pointed out that Pondicherry, an enclave surrounded by state of Tamil Nadu, is located less than a three-hour drive one-way from Chennai, the city known as Detroit of Asia. Apart from a seaport and an airport, there are valuable human resource, industrial facilities and infrastructure, all of which can help to attract investments in manufactures of IC chips for electronic vehicles.
Besides, Pondicherry has been known for its French enchantment and is a popular tourism destination in southern India making it an ideal location for Taiwanese to invest in tourism industry or for the expatriates to come for leisure and entertainment.
Mr. Wang has stressed that India is still a favorable investment destination for Taiwan businessmen despite a violence erupting at the Winstron Corporation in the state of Karnataka a couple of weeks ago.
While emphasizing that the Taiwan government remains steadfast in its policy to forge a strong economic tie with India, Mr. Wang has expressed the need for the Indian side to provide better services needed for Taiwanese investors, such as supply of clean water and stable power, land use and infrastructure, convenience in visa application procedure and incentives for investments.
Mr. Wang has extended an invitation to CM Narayannasamy to visit Taiwan in the post-pandemic timeframe to pave the way for further bilateral economic cooperation.
