Taiwan was once again invited to participate in the "Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team" (LAMAT) mission held in St. Kitts and Nevis. This year’s medical outreach took place from March 24 to April 4, 2025. A delegation from Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) was dispatched to join hands with medical professionals from St. Kitts and Nevis and other like-minded partner countries in delivering much-needed healthcare services.
The 2025 TVGH medical team comprised six professionals: Dr. Han-Chieh Cheng (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), Dr. Jing-Yi Wu (Pediatric Dentistry), Dr. Wei-Yu Chen (Neonatology), Nutritionist Che-Lin Chiu, and Dental Nurses Chieh-Ni Lee and Pei-Hsin Chen. The team rotated between St. Kitts and Nevis, each serving one week in their respective location. Throughout the mission, they provided high-quality, efficient medical services to local residents, supported local hospitals and clinics in handling more complex or less familiar cases, and delivered lectures to enhance the capacity of local healthcare professionals.
On April 2, Prime Minister and Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew hosted a special welcome reception for the Taiwanese medical team, personally expressing his appreciation and admiration. At the closing ceremony on April 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Nevis Minister of Health Hon. Jahnel Nisbett also extended their heartfelt thanks for the team's dedication and contributions.
Taiwan remains committed to serving as a force for good in the international community. We will continue to share our medical expertise and experience with our diplomatic allies and like-minded partners to help build a more resilient global public health system.
