Taiwanese Ambassador Peter C. Y. Chen paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre, President of the Senate and the Hon. Andy Glenn Daniel, Speaker of the House of Assembly on 24 August 2020 and exchanged views on issues of mutual concern such as promoting relations between parliaments and peoples of Taiwan and Saint Lucia.
Senate President Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre warmly welcomed Ambassador Chen on his new assignment and shared her experience of accompanying the Hon. Prime Minister Allen Chastanet on the state visit to Taiwan last year. House Speaker Andy Daniel stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and looked forward to an even more productive and cordial relationship between the two countries. Speaker Daniel also praised Taiwan’s response and assistance rendered to Saint Lucia in combating COVID-19.
On behalf of the people and Government of Taiwan, Ambassador Chen expressed his appreciation of Saint Lucia’s unwavering support towards Taiwan’s participation in international arena. He quoted President Tsai Ing-wen: “Pandemics cannot be stopped by one country alone,” Taiwan will continue join hands with Saint Lucia to overcome this challenge together. Ambassador Chen also pledged to strengthen the bilateral relationship and stressed that further cooperation will bring prosperity to Taiwan and Saint Lucia.
Senate President Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre and Speak Andy Daniel both wish Ambassador Chen a great tour of duty in Saint Lucia. They also accompanied Ambassador Chen on a tour of the parliament for an insight of the history of Saint Lucia. (E)
