Two dozen Taiwan universities alumni from the Baltics attended the Taiwan Alumni Association Meeting 2017 in Riga on Nov. 17th. All the members lauded the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia for hosting the meeting which provided them with the opportunity to renew their experiences in Taiwan. Representative Wu expressed his high expectation on the Association acting as the platform for exchanges for alumni and for promotion of the substantive relations between Republic of China (Taiwan) and the three Baltic states.
A presentation was made by Mr. Normunds Medens, who has just returned from Taiwan for the "International Seminar of E-Commerce" , sponsored by Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Foundation during the meeting. Mr. Medens said one of Taiwan's distinctive e-commerce trends is consumers choosing to have their purchases delivered to the convenience stores nearest to their homes. There are more than 15,000 stores in the island nation and they open 24/7. He commented that Taiwan is an excellent example of this business model, as well as a potential export market for berries, mushrooms, and honey from Latvia because of the high demand and price of these products there.
The 2017 ROC National Day documentary "Vibrant Taiwan, jumped internationally" was screened at the gathering. It depicts the latest development in Taiwan both in domestic politics and international endeavors. The Meeting was wrapped up with cordial conversation and exchanges among alumni.
