The “2019 Midshipmen and Cruising Training Squadron” of the Republic of China Navy, also known as the ROC (Taiwan) Goodwill Squadron, visited Majuro between April 30 and May 2 to jointly celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Constitution Day of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
This year’s ROC (Taiwan) Goodwill Squadron is led by Rear Admiral Wang, Kuo-Chiang. It consists of the Flagship Pan-Shi, 2 frigates Tien-Dan and Wu-Chang with a total 770 navy officers, midshipmen and sailors on board.
The Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade jointly organized a welcome ceremony at Delap Dock on Tuesday morning, April 30, soon after the Squadron arrived at the dock.
H.E. Ambassador Jeffery S. C. Hsiao then accompanied Rear Admiral Wang and key officers to have an audience with H.E. President Dr. Hilda C. Heine, and meetings with Hon. Foreign Minister John M. Silk and Hon. Mayor of Majuro Ladie N. Jack.
While in Majuro, the Honorary Guards of the Squadron joined the Constitution Day Parade and performed at Delap Park after the Opening of the 40th Constitution Day Celebration. The Squadron’s Drum and Bugle Marching Band and Marine Corps Chikwondo Team presented their outstanding performances at Delap Park in the afternoon. Meanwhile, The squadron also ran an Exhibition Booth next to the One-Island-One-Product venue.
A joint ROC (Taiwan) and RMI flag hoisting ceremony was held at Delap Dock at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 2, before the Squadron set sails for its next destination.
