The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) held an Orientation lunch on August 11 at MIR for 2023 MOFA Taiwan Scholarship awarded students. They are Isatako Timothy, Clora Victoria, Brianna Tartios, Ellen Angelina ChongGum, Kaitlin Lumakij Kedi, Losen Langbata, Arti Lometo, Jamarien David Huang, Albert Jermeto, Melchizedek Anderson, Verlene Crystal Lorok and Jubilee Molik Ishiguro. The parents of the recipients are also invited to the orientation. The scholarship recipients will leave for Taiwan on August 29 to attend their first year language program at Mandarin Training Center of National Taiwan Normal University and pursue their degree program next year.
During the orientation, Ambassador Steve C.C. Hsia congratulated the recipients on the praiseworthy result and wish them all the best to their trip. Ambassador Hsia also mentioned the Taiwan Government understands the education is one of the important pillars to support the RMI society. In order to help the development of the RMI and deepen bilateral relationship, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs increased the slots from 8 to 12 this year. Ambassador Hsia encouraged the recipients to seize to valuable opportunity and expected the students can create their own stories in Taiwan in the future.
Ambassador Hsia also thanked the valued guest, Anjanette Kattil, the designated Ambassador to Taiwan, for her care and concern of these students and wishes to see more students from the Marshall Islands pursue higher education in Taiwan to promote friendship between the two people and countries.
Ambassador Kattil, on behalf of the RMI government and the parents, expressed her gratitude for the Scholarship offered by the ROC (Taiwan) government and heartens the students to explore and branch out while studying in Taiwan. She also encouraged the students to make the best efforts in their study, to explore Taiwan as much as possible, and to build bridge and connections between two societies.
Chloe Abraham, one of the Taiwan Alumni, also invited to the orientation and shared her experience in Taiwan with the new recipients. She urged the students to learn being smart on spending of their budget and to make the best efforts on their learning.
