The R.O.C (Taiwan) Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen donates Solar Expansion System to the College of the Marshall Islands(CMI)

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen handed over the Solar Expansion System to Dr. Carl Hacker, the President of the College of the Marshall Islands on Wednesday March 26, 2014. This USD$200,000 project, completed by Taiwan’s Speedtech Energy Company, including 216 giant solar panels and inverters installed on CMI’s roof tops. This solar system aims to improve the energy efficiency of the College and fits in the renewable energy policy of the RMI’s National Strategic Plan (NSP). Speedtech provides 25-year global warranty and it is going to save CMI USD $40,000 on utility bills each year. CMI, with the savings, will spend more money on the faculty and students to provide better services and achieve better academic performance. Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen pointed out that the R.O.C.(Taiwan) government would continue to forge a partnership with the RMI Government through various infrastructure and capacity building projects in the years to come. RMI Minister of Education Hilda Heine, CMI President Carl Hacker, and CMI Chairman Alfred Capelle expressed gratitude on behalf of the RMI Government during the remarks.
