Majuro, Marshall Islands – The 2024 Midshipmen Cruising and Training Squadron of the ROC Navy, under the command of Rear Admiral Wangtien Yao Tsung, concluded a visit to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) from April 30th to May 2nd, 2024. During their stay, Rear Admiral Wangtien Yao Tsung and his team met with the RMI President H.E. Hilda C. Heine and Honorable Speaker of Nitijela, Brenson Wase, fostering friendship between the two countries
The squadron's participation in the Marshall Islands' 45th Constitution Day celebrations was a significant highlight of the visit. Marking this auspicious occasion, squadron members also performed for the first time at the newly constructed Jenrok Sports Park in Majuro, joining locals in the celebrations.
Squadron representatives, led by the Naval Academy Band, participated in the Constitution Day parade. Their performance resonated with the spirit and camaraderie of the ROC Navy, garnering commendation from the Marshallese dignitaries at the grandstand.
Following the official Constitution Day program, squadron members treated over 500 Marshallese citizens to captivating performances. The Naval Academy Band initiated the festivities with uplifting melodies, followed by a display of precision rifle drill skills by the honor guards, which left the audience in awe. Lastly, the Taekwondo team’s spectacular combat demonstration brought the show to a climax, drawing children to rush to secure the best viewing spots.
The fleet’s goodwill visits to the Marshall Islands have always received enthusiastic responses from the locals. During this visit, squadron members also engaged in community service, painting and tidying up the community multipurpose court and painting a wall highlighting the Taiwan-Marshall Islands friendship. Additionally, the exhibition area of the Panshi vessel was open to the public to showcase Taiwan's soft and hard power.
