H.E. Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen of the Republic of China (Taiwan) presented a check of $7,500USD to Hon. Minister-in-Assistance to the President Wilbur Heine on 13 June 2014 to support the continuation of the agricultural cooperation among the Ministry of Resources and Development of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy, the ROC (Taiwan) Technical Mission in the RMI (TTM, also known as the Laura Farm), the Mili Atoll Local Government and their representative in the RMI Nitijela.
The funding source was the “RMI-ROC Outer Island Agricultural Development Project”, established between the 2 countries in 2012 and was a part of the ROC (Taiwan) Project Support to the RMI under the ROC Annual Grant assistance scheme.
Working closely with the local instructors on Mili, who previously received a six month training at Laura Farm, the TTM specialists and their R&D Ministry counterparts paid an assessment visit to Mili in late April 2014 and concluded that the said project on Mili has been implemented well. Therefore, according to the project proposal agreed upon among the RND, TTM, the Embassy and the Mili atoll local government, a follow-up funding of 7,500USD was therefore authorized to Mili to continue the project.
The Embassy applauds positive progress of the bilateral agricultural cooperation shown in Mili and wishes to recognize the efforts made by TTM of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and their counterparts in the Ministry of R&D and the leadership of the Mili atoll local government and that of Hon. Minister Heine.
