A donation of food, healthy drink and locally grown vegetables with monetary value of USD 5,000 was presented to the Majuro Hospital on 23 June 2014 in front of the Diabetes Wellness Center. H.E. Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy, Hon. Health Minister Phillip Muller of Health and leaders from the local Taiwanese community all attended the ceremony.
In addition to the locally grown vegetables and traditional crops provided by the ROC (Taiwan) Technical Mission (Laura Farm) and the local farmers that Laura Farm has been closely working with, other items such as water, fresh fish and other food supplies were generously provided by the following Taiwanese community leaders: Mr. Samuel Lin of Formosa Corporation (also as the President of the Overseas ROC (Taiwan) Association), Mr. Chun-long Lin of Special Supply, Mr. Tien-li Huang of Cost Prize, Mr. Amon Chien of Jane’s Corporation, Ms. Anty Chien of Arro Corporation and J & J Store and Mr. Jack Wang of Home Garden.
During his remarks, Ambassador Chen applauded the generosity and kindness that the local Taiwanese demonstrated to the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a place they consider as home also for a very long time. Hon. Minister Muller thanked Ambassador Chen and the local Taiwanese community leaders for the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
