The 5th ROC (Taiwan)-RMI Presidents’ Scholarship Awarding Ceremony has been successfully held at Marshall Islands Resort on February 5, 2025. The ROC (Taiwan) Ambassador to the RMI, H. E. Steve C. C. Hsia, along with H. E. President Hilda C. Heine and Hon. Education Minister Gerald M. Zackios, awarded certificates and scholarship to 77 winners. The RMI Government officials, scholarship recipients, parents and representatives from schools, around 120 people, attended the ceremony.
The RMI Minister of Education, Sports and Training, Hon. Gerald M. Zackios delivered his remarks by extending appreciation to the government of the ROC (Taiwan) for establishing the fund, and emphasized the scholarship has made positive impacts on the recipients of outstanding students and in-service teachers. He also recognized the efforts of the awarded students.
Ambassador Hsia, in his remarks, highlighted the vital role of education as the foundation for sustainable development. He encouraged students to dedicate themselves to their studies and leverage their knowledge as a powerful tool to contribute not only to their personal growth but also to the future of their communities. He also emphasized Taiwan supports the RMI in advancing capacity building by offering the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and TaiwanICDF Scholarship to Marshallese students. He encouraged students to seize these opportunities and pursue higher education in Taiwan.
Ambassador Hsia also handed over 20 laptops and 200 sets of colored pencils to the Public School System (PSS) of the RMI. These gifts, from H.E. Lai Ching-te, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), will be distributed by PSS to public schools to ensure their best use. (E)
