The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) hosted the RMI Taiwan Alumni Luncheon and 2025 MOFA Taiwan Scholarship Orientation at the Marshall Islands Resort (MIR) on July 22, 2025. This year, a total of 14 scholarship recipients were honored, with most planning to study at the Mandarin Studies and Culture Center of Ming Chuan University in their first year, before pursuing their degree programs. Notably, one recipient will begin directly with a Master’s program in Public Health.
During the orientation, Ambassador Steve C.C. Hsia congratulated the awardees on their accomplishments and encouraged them to serve as ambassadors of friendship between the Marshall Islands and Taiwan. He emphasized the importance of not only excelling academically, but also embracing Taiwanese culture, language, and community life.
RMI Ambassador to the ROC (Taiwan), Anjanette Kattil, delivered virtual remarks, extending her congratulations to the new recipients. She welcomed their studies in Taiwan and reassured all Marshallese students of the support provided by the RMI Embassy, especially in helping them adjust to life abroad.
The Embassy sincerely thanks Belottie Maun, Olivia Kramer, and Gregory Obeketang for graciously joining the orientation and sharing their personal experiences as Taiwan alumni. Their heartfelt stories and practical advice provided valuable insight for the new scholarship recipients. Their presence not only offered encouragement but also helped the students feel more confident and excited about the journey ahead.
Additionally, the Embassy of the ROC (Taiwan) provided the scholarship recipients with guidelines and essential tips for living and studying in Taiwan, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future academic endeavors. (E)
