February 15 happens to be the first full moon day, the day of Lantern Festival, according to the Lunar Calendar. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar, in collaboration with Shwe Bo Thu Gratis Street Food, sponsored 1000 lunch meals to the needy people in South Dagon Township. It was previously planned to conduct the free lunch service in North Okkalapa Township, the venue has to be relocated to South Dagon Township for better ventilation to avoid overcrowdedness that might be against the regulations of fighting against COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to sharing with Taiwanese companies the information of those charity organizations offering lunch, Ambassador Charles Li visited the venue today and understood the actual situation of those less privileged residents in the neighborhood. To help relieve their hardships, many volunteer entrepreneurs mobilize resource of their own and gather sponsorships to make the free lunch service sustainable. Some of them receive symbolic payment, some like Shwe Bo Thu offers 1000 portions of lunch free of charge everyday! Their compassion and kindness is worthy of appreciation and support.
According to the organizer of Shwe Bo Thu Gratis Street Food, some Taiwanese companies already contacted the charity and made contributions to the free lunch service on an anonymous basis.
