Ambassador Lien Yu-ping hosted a reception on the evening of October 6 to celebrate the 115th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan). More than a thousand distinguished guests from Malaysia’s political, business, academic, cultural, media, overseas Chinese, and diplomatic corps gathered to celebrate Taiwan’s National Day. The event also featured the enthusiastic participation of Taiwanese businesses and organizations, showcasing Taiwanese cuisine and Taiwanese specialty productsproducts, while the chorus of Chinese Taipei School(Kuala Lumpur) led the singing of the national anthem. Together, we celebrated the birthday of the Republic of China (Taiwan)!
In her remarks, Ambassador Lien highlighted that Taiwan’s economy grew by an impressive 13.72% in the first half of 2026, while Taiwan-Malaysia economic and trade ties continued to reach new heights. Following bilateral trade of more than US$57 billion in 2025, trade grew by around 40% from January to August this year. Taiwanese companies have invested approximately US$17 billion in Malaysia over the years, creating more than 400,000 jobs.
Ambassador Lien also emphasized that Taiwanese companies’ overseas investments are increasingly driven by supply chain strategies, encompassing core technologies, intellectual property, high-level talent, and policy guidance from the Taiwan government. Upgrading the Taiwan-Malaysia Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) legal framework for investment protection are essential to providing a sound and comprehensive investment environment for investors on both sides. This is an essential first step toward attracting more Taiwanese supply chains to Malaysia.
Beyond economic ties, people-to-people exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia remain vibrant, with nearly 400,000 people travelling between the two sides from January to July 2026. Taiwan will continue to work with Malaysia to expand cooperation across education, culture, tourism, and other areas through the “Taiwan Model” and Integrated Diplomacy.
