Taiwan’s national pride of Table Tennis team, arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, for the first time to participate in the World Table Tennis (WTT) 2023 Contender competition.
The competition took place from June 10th to the 18th at the Telim Balogun Stadium in Surulele, Lagos. The team was led by national coach Wu Wen-Chia, once affectionallly known as the “Table Tennis Tyrant" in Taiwan, with several talented players like the renowned Chuang Chih-Yuan. Throughout the week, they competed vividly with players from several other countries, including South Korea, India, Germany, France, Nigeria, Ghana, and Gambia.
This was the first time that Taiwan's national sport team participated in an international sporting event in Nigeria. Local Taiwanese residents, joined by community leaders like President Chen of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria, Taipei Trade Office’s Representative and Head of Mission Mr. Andy Liu and his wife Yolanda Chen were extremely excited to receive our team, and attended the major matches to cheer on our players. After completing this round of competitions, the team continued their journey and flew out from Lagos on June 19 to Tunisia to participate the WTT Contender Tunis 2023.
